If you like to spend a few hours enjoying the company of sea turtles, you can’t afford to miss to visit the Turtle hatchery in Kosgoda, Hikkaduwa. Located near to Hikkaduwa, the place is a turtle conservation centre where they ensure the safety of turtle eggs laid on the nearby beaches until they get old enough to release to the ocean. With the aim to conserve this endangered animal species, the centre has been established in 1981. During your visit to the place, you will be able to see many turtles and maybe even release a baby turtle to the sea, if you get lucky.
The hatchery specializes in the conservation of sea turtles that are facing extinction. People can get to know various species, see hatchlings, and take part in release programs. Educational tours offer an overview of marine conservation and therefore it is a perfect family activity.
