Offering you a beautiful hiking trail with a mind-blowing scenery of landscapes at the end, Pidurangala rock is very close to Sigiriya Lion Rock Fortress. Though it became popular very recently among young travellers, the rock has a great history that runs back to 2nd century B.C. Being a monastery of Buddhist monks during the King Kashyapa’s era it is believed that King Kashyapa built the monastery for the monks who lived in Sigiriya rock fortress as he needed the Sigiriya rock for himself to build his fortress. Today, Pidurangala is one of the most popular hiking trails in Sri Lanka. Although the path to the top is not easy, you will witness a million-dollar scenery at the summit with the Sigiriya Rock in the background.
A short distance (just a few minutes) from Sigiriya, Pidurangala Rock can be a hike that can be equally adventurous and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding area. As you hike Pidurangala Rock, you will find that you will be hiking with less crowds than Sigiriya, and when you reach the summit you will enjoy one of the best views of Sigiriya Rock Fortress, framed by lush green frontier below. Along the way, you can also see ancient caves and the remains of a Buddhist monastery.
