Located in the southern region of Sri Lanka, Udawalawa is an excellent location for anyone interested in observing wildlife. Many visitors come to Udawalawa specifically to see elephants because they can easily be found wandering through open grassland.
Udawalawa has the highest concentration of elephants in Sri Lanka and provides some of the best opportunities for both wildlife viewing and photography. It offers an opportunity for visitors to observe elephants in their natural habitat as they go about their daily activities, including bathing, feeding, and moving within family groups, on the vast open plains of the park and the scrub jungle surrounding the Udawalawa Reservoir.
Aside from Elephants, there is also Water Buffalos (almost extinct), Samber Deer, Spotted Deer, Wild Boars, Crocodiles, & Toys with many kinds of birds (such as Eagles & Owls). Each visit adds an exciting dimension to every safari drive due to the variety of animals contained within the park.
Due to the fact that it has an open terrain & visibility throughout the park, it makes it very easy for photographers to take pictures of Elephants up close in addition to wide-angle landscape photographs. This makes the safari experiences in Udawalawa great options for families & first-time safari travellers.
Going to Udawalawa National Park allows you to see Sri Lankas gentle giants living free in the wild, & also gives you opportunities to learn about wildlife & the environment around you.
