Built temporarily to protect a person from rain or sunlight, Nissanka Latha Mandapaya is another construction marvel in the ancient city of Polonnaruwa. It is said that Nissanka Latha Mandapaya was built to listen to the chants of monks by king Nishshankamall. This structure was built on stone pillars with low walls. The carvings of the stone pillars of Nissanka Latha Mandapaya is outstanding and unique only to this place and cannot find any part of the island.
