Located in Kandy, Bogambara Prison was the second largest prison in Sri Lanka. Built-in 1876 by the British Ceylon Government the prison complex was one of the few prisons in Sri Lanka where the death penalty was implemented. In 2014 the prison was closed down and open for public viewing as a historic monument.
