Sri Lankan Attraction Atadage

Atadage

Atadage is a sacred Buddhist temple in Sri Lanka that attracted by many tourists. Situated in Polonnaruwa, Atadage was constructed by king Wijayabhahu in the 11th century. Atadage translates to English as “Eight Relics'’ and was the place to house the Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha during the Polonnaruwa kingdom. Constructed as a double-storeyed building, today there is only the 54 stone pillars and the foundation left of this architectural marvel. The second story made of wood that used to place the sacred tooth relic has destroyed over time. However, Atadage is still worth a visit if you are interested in Sri Lankan history.
